History of Parish of St. Augustine, St. Augustine, Pa., p. 29
On the eighth day of September, 1814, Francis Christy was plowing in a field. Father Gallitzin being present, said, "Surely a battle is going on somewhere - I can tell by the state of the atmosphere." In due time, news of Perry's victory on Lake Erie, electrified the country.
It was during this same year that, after the burning of the capitol at Washington by the British, he urged the young men under his charge to enlist in the company which Captain Richard McGuire was at that time raising. One day when the captain was drilling his men on the green near the church, Father Gallitzin was passing, using his cane, when Captain McGuire approached him presenting his sword in the attitude of fencing. The priest accepted the challenge and after a few parries of sword and cane the cane was dexterously wound about the sword which went high in the air.
Captain McGuire and his company, after having been duly organized and drilled, proceeded to Somerset County, where they were incorporated into a regiment under command of one Lieut. Countyl. Ogle, and were to have been sent against Black Rock, but the war ending shortly afterwards, they were allowed to return to their homes.

registers would only list a number in the age column. In this document, the ???? reference was mostly
shown when parents were listed, as a low number would be shown (i.e., 1, 4, 9) and I did not want to list
a year if a child only lived a month. However, given the fact that often a number of entries would only
indicate a number, but many would be for older people (73, died of old age), it may be assumed ???? is
meant to refer to year for age.

> Township, this county, is a son of Augustine and Ann (Driskle) Byrne,
> and was born in Allegheny Township, this county, March 15, 1832. The
> Byrne family came originally from Ireland, and were among the early
> pioneer settlers of Cambria County. John Byrne, the great-grandfather,
> was born in Ireland, and was the founder of the family in this

> near Loretto, on what is now known as the Flick farm, and engaged in
> farming. He was one of the very early settlers of this county,
> locating here previous to Father Gallitzin, who was a pioneer in
> Cambria county. His children were: Henry, John, Thomas, Mrs. McGuire,
> Mrs. Levi, and Mrs. Platt. Thomas Byrne (grandfather) was born in
> Ireland, and, when a boy came with his father to America. He assisted
> his father on the farm until he reached mature years, when he located
> on a farm in Carroll Township, where he followed the pursuits of a
> farmer all his life. He died in 1832. He married Miss Burgoon, and

> | Thomas T. Byrne was reared a farmer boy, and educated in the common
> and subscription schools of his township. When he began life on his
> own account, he was employed on the old Portage railroad and remained
> there two years, and then for the next ten years engaged in the shuck
> business. In 1865 he purchased the farm on which he now resides,
> located in the eastern part of Clearfield Township, this county,
> containing one hundred and eight acres, underlaid with coal. At the

NOTE: This information has not been provided by any official cemetery source. It is offered here as a
tool to promote further research and should NOT be considered as verified proof for genealogical records.
This document does not list everyone buried at St. Michael Cemetery. However, a number of sources were
used to obtain as many names as possible of people buried at St. Michael's.
H - Several personal readings, starting casually in 1990 and a complete walk through in 1999/2000 (H,
headstone; H-worn, information difficult to read, may be suspect) [Most of the headstones into the 1830's
were made of brown slabs of mountain sandstone and are fairly legible; headstones after this time period
switched to the more common white stone (sandstone or marble?) and are in many instances worn and
illegible)]
2) A review of the Cambria County Wills
FC - Funeral Card
O - Obituary; Of - obituary of
family member; unfortunately, some of the obits I have are undated
FR - family record / genealogy 6) N
- Newspaper article (Ebensburg Mountaineer-Herald, MAY 1915 and 17 MAY 1928 Memorial Day newspapers,
listed war service and cemetery where buried). Didn't always find a headstone to correspond to the
newspaper article, and not everyone who has a Civil War unit listed on their headstone shows up in a
newspaper article.
DR - Cambria County Death Registers, 1893-1905, LDS microfilm numbers 1293475
(1893-1895) and 1293476 (1895-1905). In many instances, the individuals making the entries in the death
registers would only list a number in the age column.
LB - Catholic Vital Records of Central Pennsylvania, Volumes 1-5,
1793-1869, by Rev. Albert Ledoux. Noted in Volume 1: Church records bound pastors to keeping sacramental
records. Since records of burial did not fall into this category, they were all too frequently ignored by
the pastors.
K - Rev. Ferdinand Kittell's "Souvenir of Loretto, Circa 1797-1899", which contains early
baptisms, marriages and burials. Included in this book was a register of deaths, covering the period
November 17, 1793 to October 10, 1899. Rev. Kittell gathered this information from church records and
headstones at St. Michael.

Johnstown Democrat, Nov. 30, 1897
Francis Byrne, a veteran of the Mexican and Civil Wars, died at his home in Carrolltown, at 11:40 o'clock a.m. on Thanksgiving Day. He had been in poor health for over a year, but was seriously ill only one week. The cause of his death was blood poisoning super-induced by kidney trouble. Mr. Byrne was born in Loretto, this county, January 21, 1823, and was consequently 75 years ten months and four days old. He enlisted as a private in Company D, Second Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers and served in the Mexican War from January 24, 1847, to August 14th of the same year. He also served three years in the Civil War and proved himself a brave soldier on many fields of strife.
In February, 1848, Mr. Byrne was married in the old Carrolltown Chapel to Isabel Weakland, by Rev. Father Weimer, and, saving the time he served his country, he had resided in the vicinity of Carrolltown ever since. He was the last of his family to quit the scenes of this life, all of his brothers and sisters having preceded him to the grave. His aged wife, and five sons survive him, all but one of whom live in or about Carrolltown. They are William, Cosiner [Cosmos], Theodore, Raphael, and John F. Three daughters also survive him. They are Mary, wife of Sylvester Buck of Ohio, Sarah Katherine, married to Joseph Stich of Carrolltown, and Harriet Jane, single and at home.

I also have Mary Ann's death as 1888, and she was the youngest daughter of Thomas Byrne and Sarah Burgoon. In 1880, she was living with 3 of her sons in Gallitzin. Her baptism is in Vol I of CVR, #1498, and parents are Thomas and Sara. Her marriage to Jerome is in Vol II of CVR, #1490, and while her last name is spelled Burns, her parents are Thomas and Sarah. So I think that "second" marriage is what's off. I have 4 Mary Anns, 3 Marys and 4 or 5 Mary Something-else among the Byrne families, all born in the mid 1800s, so no doubt one of them is the wife in that second marriage. [Janet Ebaugh]

Death of Mr. Jerome A Platt.
Mr Jerome A. Platt, toll-gate keeper on top of the Massanutten mountain, four miles east of New Market, Va., after an illness of several months, died this (Thursday) afternoon. He came to Page county from Pennsylvania and was 78 years old. He leaves a wife, but no relatives in this vicinity.
A priest was summoned here from Winchester by telegram about eight days ago, who ministered to Mr. P's spiritual wants.
His remains will be buried Emmanual Evangelical Lutheran church graveyard, in this place, on Saturday morning at ten o'clock. We understand a message will be sent this evening to a Catholic minister, in Winchester, to be present and conduct the funeral services.

I did find a JEROME PLATT in the 1880 census in Virginia.

I know this subject must have been discussed before, but I would appreciate any help. I am trying to fill out a DAR application and I am stuck at Mary Ann daughter of Sara Byrne. I have the Platt tree that lists her as a Platt, but I understand that she may have been the daughter of Michael Joseph McGuire, son of Michael McGuire.
I am decended from her daughter Lucinda Luther Snyder.

She was indeed the dau. of Michael McGuire and Sara Ann Byrne. They never married and she later married John Platt who raised Mary Ann. Maybe these notes will help. A careful study of the church records including sponsors will show her using both Plat and McGuire, I think. But I suppose the best evidence is her tombstone and age.
Birth record parents Michael McGuire and Sara Byrne [special note: Prince Gallitzen only puts mother's last name on records of couples who are not married]
Marriage record says Mary Ann Byrne.
I believe she was raised by John Platt. 1820 John has a female b. 1804-1810 living with him.

I am currently looking for the 1810 Census record for John Platt. Any help you can give me to help locate the record would be appreciated - like where he was living.

Maybe we can't be sure, but the Souvenir of Loretto and Catholic Trails West both put him as the same. Also what other Michael would there be in Loretto at this time?

Brenda, another cousin of mine is also working on family history and a descended from Mary Ann asked me the following:
How sure are we that the Michael McGuire that got Sarah Ann Byrne pregnant is Michael Joseph McGuire? I assume that it is he because he was 16 and she was 17. His older brother married her older sister. So they saw one another and they lived near one another, and although in those days they had responsibilities as adults they were still unworldly hormonal kids. However, there was another Michael McGuire son of Barnabas McGuire that lived in Huntington, which is not that far from Loretto, but he was older and married.
I knew about the Souvenir of Loretto but I did not know about the other book Catholic Trails West you referenced. I really appreciate your sharing your knowledge with me.

The Michael from Huntingdon was the husband of Michael Joseph's older sister. If he was having an illegitamite child, I think it would have caused quite an uproar. But I do not think we have concrete proof and I don't know how to find it. When Michael Joseph died in Baltimore in 1835 he did not mention any children, nor did there seem to be any deeds involving any children. Michael's wife Margaret got everything. So no proof there. Michael of Huntingdon left a bible record, but it does not include any Mary Ann. Likewise, no mention of her in the settlement of his estate. I don't know where to look for confirmation. Sorry I can't be more definative for you.

Brenda, Can you tell me when you think Michael McGuire Jr was born and who was his mother? The 1717 seems out of place.
Also, I have looked at all the Ledoux entries as well as others and along with your well studied opinion, I have come to agree that Mary Ann was the illigimate daughter of Michael Joseph McGuire and Sarah Byrnes. I guess you have read Catholic Trails West, vol 2. I thought it interesting that Sarah Byrnes was listed with Michael McGuire and Mary Ann pg 693 and then with Michael McGuire and with John Platt on page 715.

Brenda,
Thank you for your reply. I noticed on some trees the addition of Mary Burke. I am glad I asked you instead of taking the information as fact.
Another question or two, do you know if Capt. McGuire fought at Chadds Ford? In the Catholic Trails West, John Adams says that he came to Taneytown and a company was then on the march and he joined them. They went to Chadds Ford. I believe Michael came from that Taneytown unit.
Do you know who Cornelius McGuire is?
Who Michael Mcguire, son of Bartholomew is and who is Bartholomew.
Appreciate any help.
Thank you,
Mary

I do not know about any places where Michael might have served in the war. I just never followed up that angle.
Cornelius was the son of Andrew who died in Frederick Co., MD in 1784. I believe Andrew was a brother of Michael sr but I have no evidence to support that.
Bartholomew seems to first show up in DEL as an indentured servant. He later settles in the West Twp Huntingdon Co area. His son Michael married Capt Michael's daughter Patience. I can find no connections between these families except the marriage. Bartholomew does not seem to have ever been thru MD and I have no evidence that Capt Mike was in West twp. But the kids had to meet somehow!! MIchael and Patience's first child was baptized at Conewago Chapel in Adams Co., PA. This is just across the border from Taneytown area. I can't figure out how with Michael growing up in Huntingdon and Patience's family moving to Cambria about 7 years before the birth of their first child, how she was baptized at Conewago? Did Conewago send out a circuit rider? Did Michael and Patience travel back to Taneytown area? What a mystery?
I suppose Bartholomew could be a brother of Michael sr but I have no evidence. If he was and he was indentured in Del. then maybe the brothers came to Philadelphia and Bartholomew was bought by some farmer in Del. and Michael was bought by John Lemmon in Adams Co., PA.
So many mysteries. I love this hobby.

Hi,
There was no will. Here is the timeline with references for all the documentation. Unfortunately I did not make copies but rather abstracted. To get copies you would have to write to the varies courthouses.

Brenda, I can tell you love the "hunt". You have done a wonderful job with what you already discovered. One thing I notice in this hobby is the fact that families use names over and over and that makes the information harder to discern. Many times when I read your replies, a light will go off, and I will understand something else I read about the family. You help has really been appreciated. v/r,Mary

Here is a time line on Michael Joseph McGuire 1785-1835 for any researcher who might be interested in this family.
1785 Michael born in Frederick Co., MD
1788 Michael moved to Cambria Co., PA area with his family.
1803 Huntingdon Co., PA Orphans Court May term 1803 named as heir of Michael McGuire of Allegheny Twp.
1803 birth of Mary Ann McGuire daughter of Michael and Sara Byrne. There is no marriage record for Michael and Sara Byrne. Later data would suggest they never married. [I have more data on Sara and Mary Ann]
1808 Allegheny Tax list Michael does not show in 1810,1811, 1814,1815,1816. I am not sure this Michael is the right one.
1810 sponsors child of Patrick and Appollonia Burke.
1810 Baltimore Co., MD M. McGuire 20010 20001 a Daniel Delozier was living two doors away with numbers 00101 0001 The 1810 numbers do not work well. Might not be Michael. Michael does not appear to be living with his mother in Cambria in 1810.
1820 6th ward, Baltimore Co., MD Michael McGuire 00001 0111
1824 Michael Maguire, carpenter lives on Holliday St. west side south of Pleasant. [Directories prior to 1824 need to be check to see when Michael arrived in Baltimore]
1828 Michael J. and Margaret of Baltimore sell to Luke McGuire for $1 land called Boot in Allegheny Twp. patented 12/22/1813 book 10 pg. 303. Deed 5/5/1828 Cambria Co., PA deeds 3-437. [Further deed work needs to be done in order to tighten up Michael's actual move Baltimore.
1830 6th ward, Baltimore Co., MD Michael J. McGuire 20101 10102
1833 Michael J. Maguire/McGuire lives on Holliday St. south of Pleasant and has a shop at 50 N. Gay St.
1835 June 8 Michael McGuire buried Basillica of the Assumption of Blessed Virgin Mary.
1835 Margaret Maguire begins to administer the estate of Michael. There are no children mentioned in any of the references. There were 5 lots listed in the inventory. There are no deeds showing the sell of this land. [Baltimore Co., MD Administration Accounts vol. 34-130; Baltimore Co, MD administration accounts vol. 42-12; Baltimore Co., MD inventories vol. 44-391 and 45-481]
1840 6th ward, Baltimore Co., MD Margaret Maguire 010011 0111101
The numbers in the census might suggest that Michael and Margaret had four children born between 1800-1810. The numbers for 1820 show that the two males have probably died. The girls however were born between 1804-1810 and 1794-1804. This fits with the 1810 dates. By 1830 there is a young family living with Michael and Margaret. The dates do not seem to work for anyone. Both Michael and Margaret seem too young. Also we know that Margaret had a boarding house by 1837. Quite possibly she ran this boarding house long before this time and the census reflect boarders and no children. I have looked in the baptisms of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and found no McGuires married or born in the right time frame to be children of Michael and Margaret. Neither could I find Michael or Margaret sponsoring any children in this time frame. There were other churches in the area and perhaps Michael and Margaret actually attended a congregation who shared the cemetery of the Assumption church. All the surviving church records need to be checked carefully. The cemetery lot at Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Mulberry and Catherdral Sts. might show who was buried near Michael and Margaret and give leads to possible children. Also the city directories might show who was living at 58 Holiday in 1847. This person might have been the heir of Margaret. Using this name in the deeds might turn up some useful information.
This shows that there are still a few gaps in the history of Michael Joseph, however there are no doubts that this is the son of Capt. Michael and that he lived and died in Baltimore. Did he go to Baltimore with the Daniel Delozier who was living just one house away? Did he marry before going to Baltimore?
I will be happy to entertain comments, corrections, and additions to Michael Joseph.

That's a good question Beth,
I have just been working on this. I put together a few things with a
timeline following, but.... this is credible only if I am correct in
thinking that Michael Joseph McGuire and Richard McGuire are BROTHERS and
are SONS of Michael McGuire & Rachel Brown. Please correct any info.
Brenda Wallace has extensively researched the McGuire family, and I think or
her as having the most complete information and the expert.
I have that Sarah Byrne & Michael Joseph McGuire had a daughter Mary Ann in
1803. This is the gal who married John Luther.

Michael's brother Richard married Sara's sister Eleanor:
Richard McGuire married Eleanor Byrne. No record of marriage (first marriage
at Loretto recorded in 1803), but baptisms at Loretto starting in 1801.
Michael McGuire and Sara Byrne had baby Mary Ann in 1803.No record of
marriage.
I found no marriage for John Platt & Sara, but in John Platt Sr.'s pension
file, Sara gives the date of their marriage as 1809. I do not believe Sara
was a widow as McGuire family history (thanks to Brenda Wallace) says
Michael moved to (or near) Baltimore, married and had children.

So..... I with this info & some Cambria Co & Platt family history info I put
together a timeline. Please let me know if any is incorrect.
1795: The Byrne family moves to Cambria Co (near the McGuire farm?)
pre 1800 Eleanor Byrne marries Richard McGuire
9/1800: Eleanor & Richard McGuire have a baby - Mary Anne
After the summer of 1801 (or as late as 1802): John Platt & family move to
Huntington Co. (Cambria Co)
9/1803: Eleanor Byrne & Richard McGuire have a baby - Bridgitte
9/1803: Sarah Byrne & Michael McGuire have a baby - Mary Ann
6/1807: Sarah is using the Byrne name at baptism of nephew Demetrius
1809: Sarah Byrne marries John Platt Jr.
2/4/1810: Michael McGuire is still in town for a baptism
6/15/1810: Sarah Byrne & John Platt Jr. have a baby - Elizabeth
1/29/1813: Sarah Byrne & John Platt Jr. have a baby - and name him Michael
Joseph same name as Mary Ann's father - Michael Joseph McGuire! what's with
that?
9/23/1821: Mary Anne gives surname McGuire, d. of Michael as a baptismal
sponsor
(note: her mother is also a sponsor)
5-31-1825: Mary Ann Byrne married John Luther
(her father has moved, she is now using her mother's maiden name)
I have a question associated with this mess?
In the Souvenir of Loretto & the book Gallitzin there is a Luke McGuire. Is
he related to Richard & Michael Joseph? If not, who are his parents?
Here is the info: (apologies - now this is really getting too long)

[From Jane Tripp, April 6, 2003]
Just found a bit more info on the John PLATT family of Cambria County. I am trying (without much success) to post the will of John Platt Jr to the PACAMBRIA site. Hope to accomplish this by next week.
John Jr left Cambria County for Westmoreland County Pennsylvania after his wife Sarah Byrne Platt died. Not sure exactly when he moved to Westmoreland County, but in the 1870 (June 29, 1870) census he was in Derry Township, Blairsville PO living with daughter Elizabeth Platt (age 50) All resided on the family farm of daughter Agnes (age 45) and her husband William WARNOCK (age 44) The will was written April 29, 1871 and proved April 2, 1872. According to the Vignos work, John Jr is buried at St. Simon and St. Jude Church Cemetery, Blairsville, Derry Township, Westmoreland County Pennsylvania. No tombstone or record could be found.
John Platt's will was written April 29, 1871 and proved April 2, 1872. I am assuming that "proved" means he died sometime just before or on April 2, 1872. (if incorrect, please let me know)
John Jr. cuts out most of his children in the will, leaving extra money to Elizabeth and putting her in charge of paying for the funeral. He did not stipulate a tombstone and the Vignos researchers of this Platt family couldn't find one, so I quess Elizabeth bought a really nice black dress with Daddy's money.
Based on only this will and this 1780 census (age 86 at his last birthday), we have John Platt Jr, son of John Platt Sr. (1784- 1872). Since the Vignos work has John Jr. dying about 1862-67, I have a small hope that they might not have looked at the church records as late as 1872. Here is the will as I'm not sure when it will be posted to the site. Next step - to look at church records in Westmoreland County.
If the witness named below, James Donnelly or Richard Sloan, are in your line, please email me off list.

Platt family history has that John & Sarah had 8 children. Here is the list from the Platt family history:
(written in March, 1897)
John Platt son of the Revolutioner had eight children - five girls and three boys
viz Lizzy 88 dead,
James 86 dead,
Michael my father 84 living,
Agnes 82 living,
Ellen 80 living,
John 78 living,
Margaret 76 dead,
Lizzie 72 living.
The information seems correct except that it should read "MICHAEL, MY UNCLE, LIVING....
This letter lists the children by their nicknames, the info is not from the baptismal records. Note that Mary Ann is not listed. This is the document that led me to start (I'm still working on it) to look at Mary Ann & if see who her father was. (Jane Tripp)

Letter from C. C. Plat to Valentine Devinny. From the files of Joe Wagner, Canton, Ohio. Notes: 1. Additional information added in [ ] 2. Grandfather of C. C. Platt is John Platt Jr. son of John the Revolutioner 3. C. C. seems to be combining John Platt the Revolutioner with his son John Jr. 4. All listed children are for John Platt Jr. Wildwood Springs January 5, 1897 V. Devinny In reply to your letter written to Annie Glass which she handed me C.C. Platt my grandfather's name was John Platt [Jr.], who was born in Germany to the best of my knowledge. My mother showed me a Catholic (German) Prayer book - that he could not read English. He had four daughters of which one is dead - and three sons - two are living and my father is dead. The ages of the youngest of his children is 83 while the oldest could be 92. The Grandfather died about 25 or 30 years ago. A few years before his death he moved from Cambria County to West Moreland County where he died and was buried. [Reference is to John, Jr.] His occupation was farming. Do not know whether he was in Revolutionary War but can find this out and all other particulars concerning his life if this proves to be the man you have reference - if there is any information so let me know.

2. 2. Letter is written one page, two columns. Format changed to fit current page margins.
3. 3. James John Platt, father of C. C. Platt deceased when C. C. was young. C. C. lived with Michael Platt after the death of his father.

Dear Sir. As I promised to write you on my return from the North of the County after seeing my Aunt and Uncle. They said they did not know where John Platt the referred Revolutioner was born whether in this country or in Germany. He was married twice, but don't think he had any children to the last wife. But he had five to his first wife viz John, Joseph, Henry, Mary and Catherine. John married Mary Burns, Joseph married Sarah Crise, Henry went west and his marriage is unknown to us. Mary married William Ryans, Catherine married Michael Brown. John Platt son of the Revolutioner had eight children - five girls and three boys viz Lizzy 88 dead, James 86 dead, [ Father of C. C. Platt] Michael my father 84 living, [Uncle of C. C. Platt] Agnes 82 living, Ellen 80 living, John 78 living, Margaret 76 dead, Lizzie 72 living. Joseph Platt had three sons and one daughter viz Joseph, Vincent, Thomas and Catherine [ Elizabeth, Jerome] not knowing their ages as they moved away westward from here after the death of their father and mother and I do not know whether they married or not. Mary and Catherine were married here but moved westward and do not know whether they had any children or not. John Platt the Revolutioner went blind fourteen years before his death and died at his son Joseph's at the age of 104 years and was laid to rest at Harts Sleeping Place at St. Josephs Cemetery. This information was obtained from Michael Platt a grand son of the Revolutioner John Platt. I will now close my letter and if this proves to be unsatisfactory please write for further information. Hoping to hear from you I remain with respect

North Cambria News, Hastings, Pa Friday, Oct 17, 1902.
OLD PIONEER DEAD! Almost Ninety Years Old. Cleared Site for Carrolltown.
DISASTEROUS FIRES
On Wednesday morning, at 6 O'Clock, Mr. Michael J. Platt died at his home in Plattsville, Susquehanna township of the diseases incident to old age.
Deceased was born in Alleghany township, this county on the 28th day of January 1813, being at the time of his death, aged 89 years, 8 months and 17 days.
When ten years of age his parents removed to Susquehanna township and located on the farm now owned by E. P. Baker, where Mr. Platt spent his youthful life. Between the ages of 21 and 28 the deceased was employed on the present site of Carrolltown, clearing off the ground on which the town now stands; working at that time for Rev. Mr Lenkey [Lemke]the pioneer priest; afterwards working for Richard Ashcraft on a nearby farm. At the age of 28 Mr. Platt was married to Emily Farrell, who was born and raised on the farm on which Hastings now stands.
To this union five children were born:
Elmyra, wife of Henry C. Kirkpatrick, deceased;
Helena, wife of Henry Mellon, of Patton;
Luke, and
John A., of Hastings; and
Maggie, wife of Frank Perry of Coalport.
Mrs. Platt died Sept. 9th, 1873. About 3 years later Mr. Platt married Mrs. Sara Phalen, to which union four children were born;
Emily, wife of Ralph Flanigan, of Coalport;
Stella, wife of Anthony Baker, and
Coletta, wife of Jacob Kirkpatrick, of Hastings: and
Elmyra, at home.
After a Requiem Mass in this in this place on Saturday morning at 9 o'clock, the remains will be taken to Carrolltown and interred in the old family plat, where it has always been his desire to be buried.
Note: This is a photocopy, so I can make a copy for anyone who wants on
I read one article that said Fr. Lemke purchased a farm of Richard Ashcraft for Carrolltown. Does anyone know any more about it: it seems that Mr. Platt helped clear it.

There was no will. Here is the timeline with references for all the documentation. Unfortunately I did not make copies but rather abstracted. To get copies you would have to write to the varies courthouses.

I am also of the Platt family and have a copy of the family tree done in 1955(?). I have Mary Ann Platt as a daughter of John Platt & Sarah Byrne. Mary Ann married John Luther. They had a daughter Mary Ellen who married John Latterner.
Most of the info. I have is from the book Vignos published when he worked on the family tree. A copy of the book and his research is at the Cambria Co. historical society in Ebensburg. If you want add'l. info. I will be happy to share what I have.
