BYRNESVILLE MEMORIES E. A. BYRNES
Written about 1980, scanned into the computer December 2005.
Behind my grandparent’s house were two shanties as they were called. The one directly behind the house was a woodshop, 20’ by 30' and was used by my grandfather to build nativity stables and other things like lawn furniture and any pieces for the house that needed replaced. Inside was quite a collection of tools, a table saw, and motors with sandpaper discs, a bench and a big black woodstove.
The bench was under a window and in front of the window were shelves of wood to hold tools. As you entered, the wall on the left behind the stove was all shelves. The shelves had many containers of all sizes containing rusting but fascinating collections of miscellaneous hardware. The place always smelled of fresh sawn wood, it was in this shed that my grandfather taught me to use a wood saw. I’ll never forget him telling me to "let the saw do the work."
On the right as you entered, almost behind the door was a ladder that led to a low attic. When I could, I'd sneak up the ladder; scrounge around looking for who knows what. Once in the attic I found a round can with a lid, in the can were old campaign buttons and medals. I skinned a silver mink one time in this shed. While driving around I had seen this mink that had been hit by a car. It was dragging its back legs around so I chased it and killed it with a shovel. It stunk up the whole shop up, but I skinned it and tacked it to a piece of plasterboard. Later on I sent it to a company to be tanned. The shanty behind this one was torn down, it had been a huge (to my young eyes) black barn type building, seemingly filled with sawdust and piles and piles of dowels, and I wasn't allowed to play in it.
Beside the woodshop my grandmother had a garden where she grew nothing but irises. Beside the garden, leading from the back door of the house was a cement path that led up between two huge pine trees to a stairway covered by a rose laden trellis. On was post was a wren house and another was on a clothesline post in the backyard.
In front of the one pine tree to the right of the path were three pieces of white wooden lawn furniture made by my grandfather. One time my friends and I had a BB gun, my grandmother showed us what a sharpshooter she was. Standing about twenty yards from the lawn furniture, she aimed for and hit the center of the center piece of one lawn chair; she could shoot better than any of us. The cement path also led down around the side of the house to the street. Large hedges bordered the front of the yard; there was a birdbath and two pink flamingos under a maple tree. Once I caught a dozen or so inch long catfish and kept them in the birdbath, I was confused as I kept going to look and I would have fewer and fewer catfish. Birds were coming down and gobbling them up.
There was an oval shaped garden of flowers in the center of the front portion of the yard, all the small gardens were bordered by bricks set into the ground at angles on end and painted white. Three or four wooden stairs led up to the porch. The porch was covered and had a railing of wooden lathe-work balusters. On the out side of the railing were three flowerboxes, within which my grandmother grew petunias of white, pink, and red. The far end of the porch had a trellis with a vine that covered the whole end of the porch. When I was real young I used sit on my granddads lap and he'd ask to see what I had in my pockets. He used to sing this song: "Edward the first died of thirst, Edward the second went to heaven……." Then he would hum a little bit more of the tune.
Sometimes, on hot summer nights I'd be allowed to sleep out on the porch glider. Once I remember being so sunburned I could hardly move and I got to sleep on the porch. I enjoyed sitting on that porch with my grandparents on many summer evenings, from twilight to way past dark, listening to a small transistor radio and eating chocolate ice cream.
Behind the pine trees and bordering the back of the yard was a wall of lilacs, these were broken only by the stairs with the rose "tunnel". The stairs led to what was called the "alley". The alley was a flat piece of ground that ran along behind the lilacs. Garbage used to be burnt here. To the left and up the hill from the alley were two storage sheds, the lawn furniture and other things were kept in these for winter storage.
My friends and I built a fort in a group of trees behind these sheds and at the top of one of those trees, if it is still there, are my initials. The wood was weathered barn wood my grandfather got it for me. To the right of these sheds was a field that ran some way up the hill, this used to be a garden. This was bordered by a creek that ran down the hill in the spring on one side and an overgrown ditch of rocks on the other. Near the right side and about halfway up were black cherry trees and a pear tree a bit beyond the cherry.
Up above this old garden area was a boney dump, a hill of slag from a mine. The shaft of the mine is almost grown over, has water in it and is to the left and a little higher than the boney dump. Around this boney were black raspberries, we used to pick bags full and ha7e them with milk and sugar. My friends and I used to camp on the top of this boney pile. One time we raided a garden of Mr. Glydora and mad a stew of onions, potatoes and corn.
Another time we buried a snake in a tobacco can at the top of this hill, expecting to come back in a year and finding a skeleton. I don’t remember finding any.
The summers I spent in Byrnesville seemed to last forever, to a boy of ten or eleven, two or three months was forever. The first time I met Jack Yurcision we had been preparing for a hike in the hills. I had pop in my canteen and Jack surely thought, "who is this city slicker sissy with the pop in his canteen?” As time went on though and boys prove their bravery to each other in a number of ways, Jack and I became good friends. We did a lot of exploring in those days; one of my favorite places was up near where Jack's family had their farm. From Byrnesville it was across the valley and up in the hills, the area was a mixture of dirt roads, woods, streams, abandoned mines and farms.
Frog hunting in the ponds formed by water filled mines was one of our favorite and most important pastimes. There were stories of all kinds of frogs up at these mine ponds. There were frogs of every color in those strip mine ponds; blue, green and black, red and solid white. There were yellow and green tree frogs too. There was always the chance of finding black salamander with scarlet bellies. I myself was always after the fabled white frogs. I never did see any but we would go and turn every rock and piece of wood over in hopes of any frog.
These mine ponds were scary places, most were "bottomless". As I remember, one had a dead horse in it, we could see its head below the water, and many had burlap sacks that supposedly contained unwanted kittens. One stream was named the "Monkey Drifts" and as the story goes, is the place that someone threw a dead pet monkey. We were always warned to stay away from these ponds but we would hunt them for frogs and fish them for the giant catfish that lived there. At many of these ponds you could cast out with a sinker and let your whole line out and never touch bottom.
One time after more hours of hunting and exploring than we thought; we heard a car horn beeping and beeping in the distance. We headed toward the noise which was the only thing to be heard except for
birds and frogs. There was my granddad beeping the horn on his '55 Chevy, we had been gone about six hours and it was dark by the time Granddad drove us home. My grandfather wasn't too mad at me, I think he was happy he found use We were warned about those mine ponds again and remembered the warning while there the next day.
We used to camp out up at Jack's family farm, sometimes we would take a tent and other times we would sleep in the open near haystacks, using them as shelter. One night we had to go for water, in the dark about a half a mile from our campsite. Pete and Tony Bartzac were with us. We had a transistor radio and a flashlight; we used to listen to KDKA Pittsburgh. About half-way to the well the flashlight and radio batteries started to go and the darkness closed in. We kept each other going with encouraging words like "What's wrong chicken... you scared?” We had just made it to the well when we noticed a big black shape moving nearby a fence. Although none of us admitted it, I was scared to death, I probably glowed white I was so scared. Jack said quickly and more I think to assure himself that it was a cow and it was.
Another night we spent in an abandoned barn, in the loft in some hay. We only did that once as we heard that big rats lived in that barn. There was what was called a mill pond near that barn and we used to swim in it until we found out it was polluted. It probably wasn't polluted but if we found anything dead in it then it was polluted to us.
At times we would have rock fights along those mine roads, we would throw rocks at kids we didn't know and they would throw back. I was a hero once for hitting a kid in the side of the head with a rock. The kid was bleeding pretty much and I wasn't feeling like a hero at all, I was worried about getting in trouble with my folks. The kid was all right, thank God, a half inch lower and he might have lost his sight in one eye.
One time Jack and I were walking along a road that followed a stream. All of a sudden Jack says "watch this". Jack picked up a rock, pointed to a bird on a branch hanging over the stream. Although the bird was maybe fifteen yards away, Jack took aim and hit that poor bird in the head, the bird dropped plop into the water and was carried down stream. Later, Jack said that he had only planned on scaring the bird.
My grandmother used to pack me cookies and stuff for my hikes and I would always share with Jack. One day while walking along a road I was taking my time (on purpose) getting some cookies out of my knapsack and when I finally had them out, Jack turned to me and said, "Don't tell me you finally got those f--kers out of the sack? For some reason I thought that was the funniest thing I ever heard and laughed for about an hour.
I caught two snakes at once under a board by the boney. One
I know for sure was a DeKays snake and the other was what we thought at the time to be a baby Diamond-Back Rattler. In a tent one time with Tom Marshall and his sister and a couple of other guys, we played strip poker. Again on top of the hill. I remember everyone was
down to their underwear except me, I was dealing and cheating if I remember right.
Up past the boney was an old orchard, it was overgrown and the apples weren’t any good for eating. We used to have apple wars, throwing apples at each other. Those little green ones used to hurt. Up past the old orchard was a field of pine trees planted pretty much in rows. Up even farther than this was a steep field. We used to have a lot of fun sliding down this field on scraps of cardboard. There was quite a view from this high on the hill; we used to call it the “palm of God” because the surrounding hills together looked like a giant palm. It was always real quiet up this high on the hill and the sound of the clocks and chimes of Barnesboro were literally as clear as a bell. We always knew what time it was, we used to bless ourselves at this time as was the custom. Throughout this field too were huckleberry bushes, these too, if not eaten on the spot were great with milk and sugar.
Up behind this field was a dense woods, once you were in the woods you couldn’t see back out so there was no “view”. Where the trees didn’t grow were out croppings of rock. We used to swing on vines up in this woods and scare each other with stories of a “mad hermit” that ate kids. Coming back down the hill was dangerous and a thrill in itself. The hill is so steep that you could come down the hill about eight times faster than going up. We would end up falling five or six times on the way down.
Next to my grandparents house was the “hotel” built by my great-grandfather Thomas J. Byrnes. At one time it had a tavern down below on the ground floor, my great-grandfather used to tend the bar there. When I was growing up the bar was gone and the building was owned by people named Yingling. My good friend Tom Marshall lived in the “hotel” which had been converted to apartments.
Behind the hotel was a huge tall oak tree we used to spend hours in its branches being kids. We would go way to the top, being sky pilots swaying with the wind on thin branches. Tom broke his arm once, flying to
the ground. Across from the Byrnes Hotel was another garden, this one grown by my grandfather. Wait I have to say more of the hotel.
We used to get yelled at for running up the steps of the hotel that used to knock dirt on the people sitting on the porch below. By the time I was growing up, the top floors of the hotel were condemned for being unsafe.
The garden my grandfather had, as I said was across the road from the hotel. It used to be mostly corn with a lot of other vegetables. The garden was manicured with grass paths and sweet peas growing on the fences. We used to try rhubarb with salt, I never liked it. Down
at the bottom of the garden was a well, a surfaced underground spring. Water for the garden came from this spring. I caught a small salamander at this spring one time, it was black with a scarlet belly.
We used to run through and hide in the rows of corn, at dinner my uncles used to bet me they could eat more corn than I. Down along the road from the garden, on the same side of the street as the hotel was a small store. Byrnes’s Store run by "Bunny" Byrnes. I always had money for pop, candy and potato chips. I used to by a lot of clear "Birch Beer". There were also many elderberry bushes, up behind the alley. One time we used the juice to cover our skin and played Indians. Down below my granddad’s garden were railroad tracks that followed a creek all the way into Barnesboro We used to walk those tracks to go to the movie or to get pizza at 10 cents a slice. We used to put pennies, nails and glass on the rails and wait for the train to come to flatten them out. The nails would look like small swords. We used to catch crayfish in the creek and pop "Touch-me-nots". We made a partial dam on the creek once and tried floating around in the higher water on homemade rafts.

From Edward A. Byrne August 1st, 2006:
I was glad to see Paul at his home in Byrnesville, near Barnesboro, now Northern Cambria Borough Pennsylvania in October of 2003. My wife and I had traveled to the area to enjoy the mountains with autumn color. I found Paul with a rake in his backyard on James Street; he was filling in a small depression in the lawn. I said, "Hey Paul! Boy am I glad to see you!" Paul said he was glad to see me too. It had been 20 years since I last saw him or Byrnesville. Everything had changed but Paul Byrnes still lived in Byrnesville, in the house he built and it meant a great deal to me to see him again.
We talked about the parties which used to go on in his large covered porch. At 13 I was allowed at the party for a bit before hitting the sack at my grandparent’s house across from Paul's. I listened to the party, the music, and laughter, long into the night. (I know I was 13 because the song "Locomotion" by Little Eva was playing which came out in 1962.)
A number of us Byrnes's gathered at Paul's house in July of 2005 in the few days before the Byrnes Family and Friends Reunion of 9 July 2005. It was the best of a small reunion there in Paul's front yard. Karen Byrnes, Jerry and Judy Byrnes, Edward A. Byrnes, his sister Diane Byrnes Carl, Maureen Byrnes wife of Wes and daughter Cynthia were in attendance.

registers would only list a number in the age column. In this document, the ???? reference was mostly
shown when parents were listed, as a low number would be shown (i.e., 1, 4, 9) and I did not want to list
a year if a child only lived a month. However, given the fact that often a number of entries would only
indicate a number, but many would be for older people (73, died of old age), it may be assumed ???? is
meant to refer to year for age.

WEAKLEN, Simon A. 1827 12 Dec 1902 Aged 75y 6m 4d Row 5
Cambria Freeman, Jan. 2, 1903
Simon A. Weakland, one of the oldest and most highly esteemed residents of Susquehanna township, died at his home near Hastings on Sunday, December 14th, at the age of 75 years. His death was caused by paralysis, he having suffered from a stroke on the preceding Thursday, from which he never rallied.
Deceased was born in Carroll township in June, 1827 and had been a resident of that section all his life. He had owned and lived on the farm, on which he died for 53 years, and was known and esteemed by everybody in the community as a good citizen, neighbor and friend. He is survived by his aged wife and one son, Isaac J. Weakland of Carroll township, and one daughter, Emma, wife of William E. Lantzy of Susquehanna township. The funeral took place on Tuesday morning when, after services at St. Bernard’s church at Hastings, his remains were laid to rest in the old Catholic cemetery at St. Joseph’s church, where most of the friends of his boyhood are buried.

The following is from an email received by Edward A. Byrnes from Herman Jerome "Jerry" Byrne s concerning his dad and grandad, Edward R. Byrnes and Thomas J. Byrnes. Recieved Oct 20,2003 :
"Hi Edward----- when you were little it was "Eddie".I don't recognize the picture and I don' t think that I ever saw mygrandpa Byrnes---I think that I was too young. I do remember the big long bar in the hotel first floor.....the bar was closed and we kids played there sometimes. The bar closed during prohibition and never reopened. My father told me the story of the keg of whiskey that arrivedat the train station, in Barnesboro, several months after prohibition started. My father(your grandpa) drove a horse and buggy to the train station, picked up the keg and brought it to Byrnesville. My father asked your great grandfather what to do with the keg of whiskey and was told to open it and pour it on the ground---and--he poured out the whole keg."

Gayle Ann Byrnes Flint and Edward A. Byrnes remember visiting who our mom called Aunt Margy and Uncle Henry in Detroit. We knew Aunt Margy's mother as Munga who was really named Margaret and married to Thomas N. Fletcher. Aunt Margy and Uncle Henry had a daughter, the first cousin of Dorothy Mae Fletcher Byrnes who married Bob Heini and moved to Florida, possibly Sarasota.
I remember all the women would congregate in the kitchen of the small house in Detroit while Uncle Henry was most times on the couch in the lifing room smoking his pipe. Uncle Henry wore glasses, his wife Margaret and her mother were both heavy women.

Individuals : Byrnes John David
That’s just what Father D. John Byrnes, diocesan director of vocations decided to do.
The bracelet message has become a popular vehicle to promote social awareness of various issues that face young people and society today, including the need for new vocations. It’s a simple but direct message: “Pray for Vocations.” Along with the inscription is Father Byrnes’ e-mail address: jbyrnes@@dioceseaj.org.
“I didn’t originate the idea,” explained Father Byrnes. “Father Leon Bernat introduced them in the Diocese of Buffalo and they were received very well.” Father Byrnes decided it would be a great way to remind young people of the avenues that exist to serve the Catholic Church.
Father Byrnes is very pleased with the green bracelets he’s circulated so far in the diocese. “I began distributing them at the Senior High School Youth Convention (SHYCON), which was held this past October. They’ve been received well,” he said with a smile.
He will continue to distribute the bracelets in his visits to the high schools throughout the rest of the school year, at the Junior High Youth Convention and Camp Zaccheus this summer.
The vocation bracelet is green, which is the color of hope, Father Byrnes added.
In addition to the bracelets campaign the diocese is conducting its annual Vocation Poster, Essay and Poetry Contest. The event is cosponsored by the diocese and the Serra Clubs of Altoona and Cambria County, Pa. Submissions will illustrate the ways a person can serve the church as a priest, brother, sister or deacon.
“Where Do You Want Me To Serve?” is the encompassing theme for this year’s program.
In announcing the theme, Father Byrnes explained, “In this year’s contest, our young people are to be as creative as possible in interpreting the theme, particularly illustrating ways a young person could accept God’s call in the future as a missionary, priest, sister, brother or deacon.”
Each Catholic school or parish-based religious education program and home school program may submit two posters, two poems and two essays per grade. All entries must be marked with identification tags provided by the vocations office, and become property of the vocations office.
The entries must be original work composed by one student. Group projects are not accepted. The posters will be judged on relationship to the theme, originally, and neatness. The size of the poster is 12 inches by 18 inches.
Poems should be no more than 50 lines long, and will be judged on their relationship to the theme. Essays should not exceed 300 words. They should be typed, double-spaced, and printed on only one side of the paper. They will be judged on adherence to the theme, neatness, correct grammar and spelling.
All posters, poems and essays must be submitted on or before Tuesday, March 1, 2006 to the Vocations Office, located at the Prince Gallitzin Chapel House, P.O. Box 99, Loretto PA 15940. More information can be obtained by calling the Vocations Office at (814) 472-5441 or by e-mail jbyrnes@@dioceseaj.org.
Judging the essays and poems will be the Sisters of the Carmelite Community of the word (CCW). The posters will be judged by members of the Altoona Serra Club and the Serra Club of Cambria County.
The winning poster in this year’s contest will be the 2007 poster for vocations.
This year’s artwork was created by Jessica Harlin of the Windber Catechetical Center. Her teacher is Mercy Sister Evangelista Strohmier.
Awards will be presented at the annual Bishop’s Night for Vocations Dinner to be held on Wednesday, April 26, at Saint Francis University in Loretto.

Individuals : Platt John (628)
JOHN PLOTT (also PLATT). Born 1747 near Littletown, York Co, Pa; died 12 Feb
1850; aged 102 years 5 months 11 days. Susquehanna Twp. Buried in St. Joseph's Cemetery, near Carrolltown. Fought in Colonel HAND's Regiment. Re-enlisted in 1777 in Captain GELWICK's 1st Company, 8th Battalion. See "Honor Roll Service Record of Members of John PLATT Family" by Charles VIGNOS (in Cambria County
Historical Society). Obituary, Mountain Sentinel, 21 Feb 1850. Founded Plattville. Received pension at age of 90.
(Source: Veterans Grave Register, Cambria County; list of Revolutionary War veterans buried in Cambria County, Pa.)
Most of the Platt family information comes from the John Platt Biography in the collection o f Edward A. Byrnes
From Jane Tripp:
I've been looking for early records of John Platt the Revolutioner for a few years now. In his Revolutionary war pension file, he testifies he was born near Littlestown in York, now Adams Co., PA. That birth location info led to some early Adams Co tax & census records and a few Conewago Chapel records for him. Same info led me to a few records for his brother Joseph, also a soldier in the Revolution.
John's son, also named John (call him Jr) married Sarah Byrne in 1809 (probably in Cambria Co.)
One daughter of John Jr & Sarah named Agnes was born 28 May 1815.
She married William Warnock, an engineer for the PRR, they moved around a bit, but by 1870 William Warnock had given up working as an engineer for the PRR and was running the farm bought by John Platt, then a widower in Derry Twp., Westmoreland Co.
The 1880 census has William off the farm and working back for the PRR then living in Blairsville, now located in Indiana Co., PA.
John Platt's (Jr) will filed in Derry Twp., Westmoreland 29 April 1871 and proved 2 April 1872, leads me to believe he died 1871-1872.
William & Agnes Platt Warnock had 3 daughters. Any spouses are not known at this time. A few hours ago, I came across a short bio of William Warnock from an on line book "The History of Indiana County Pennsylvania", and fell out of my chair.

WILLIAM WARNOCK was born in Philadelphia in 1826, and was a son of Daniel and Margaret Warnock nee McConville. The former was a native of Scotland, and landed at Quebec, Canada, and walked thence to Philadelphia, by way of Pittsburgh. He died in 1859, at the age of seventy-six; his wife died in Philadelphia in 1832. Our subject's connection with the P. R. R. dates from September 26, 1853, when he was employed as a machinist and locomotive engineer. He ran a freight train between Pittsburgh and Altoona, and on coming west, about three o'clock on the morning of the 17th of February, 1854, he ran into the east freight at Blairsville intersection, and has his left arm broken at the elbow joint and right wrist dislocated. In September, 1854, he came to Blairsville to run the engine "Henry Clay" from Blairsville to the intersection till the completion of the Indiana Branch railroad. He ran the first engine, the Henry Clay, in the I. B. R. R. The second engine on the I. B. R. R. was the "United States," used by the Collins Brothers to haul iron, etc. When trains began to run regularly, he ran the first train with the "Chestnut Ridge;" he afterward used the "Crawford No. 23," in 1859. In March, 1861, he ran the first train on the Ebensburg and Cresson Branch Railroad, with engine No. 22. In 1865, he was employed by Peter Collins to put up engines and derricks for drilling for oil near Loretto, Cambria county, at what was called the "Dawson well." In May, 1866, he was employed by the Allegheny Valley Railroad as machinist and locomotive engineer. In 1870, he engaged in farming, and in 1871, was employed as machinist in the shops of the W. P. R. R. at Blairsville. Our subject was married in 1847 to Agnes, a daughter of John Platt, who was born in Adams county, in 1784, and died in Westmoreland county in 1871. He was the son of John and Elizabeth Platt nee Leutze, who came from Rockbridge county, Virginia, to Adams county, and thence, in 1801, to Cambria county. He was a soldier in the Revolution. He died at the age of one Hundred and four years, in Cambria county, about three miles from Cherry Tree. Our subject's farm in Derry township, Westmoreland county, has the application warrant, dated April 3, 1769, and in the name of William Dixon. The latter transferred the property to John Barnett, who sold to John Platt, the father of Mrs. Warnock.
My first thought was to get off the floor, second thought was that John, The Revolutioner and his father (always guessed to be named Henry) were combined in these last few sentences. Third thought was that everyone had this info but me.
I already have among my early records research:
1. John Platt the Revolutioner testifies he was born near Littlestown [Germany Twp], York, now Adams Co., PA
2. Henry Platt, son of John The Revolutioner, married Phoebe Miller on 28 May 1803 in Rockbridge Co., VA. (She the daughter of Valentine Miller & Susan Ensminger)
3. Henry Plot married Catharine Ensminger on 5 Feb 1791 in Rockbridge Co., VA (She the sister of the above Susan Ensminger)
4. Andrew Ensminger married Mary Plot, the daughter of Henry Plot, on 5 Feb 1791 in Rockbridge Co., VA (He the brother of the above Susan Ensminger)
5. Henry Blat is listed as living (not as a land owner, just listed on the map) just outside the map of Digges' Choice [in what would be Germany Twp] Additionally, correspondence with Jan Bankert has the map dated cir 1755.
6. Dominic Noel gave me the DNA bug and I sponsored a descendant of John The Revolutioner for DNA studies.
7. Out of just plain stubborness to prove or disprove my suspicions, I sponsored a descendant of Henry Plot (#3) for DNA studies.
DNA testing revealed a 24/25 marker match of John Platt The Revolutioner to Henry Plot married Rockbridge Co.(#3). As an aside, I did expand John The Revolutioner to a 67 marker test and am hoping the Henry Plot donor will do the same.
Thoughts or comments? What next?
I do plan to post this information to other groups, but I came to you folks first for direction. You are the best group of researchers I've met.
Regards, Jane Tripp

Obituary
Michael M. Weakland died at his home in Carroll township, July 8, 1899,
aged 89 years and 8 months. His father William Weakland, died 21 years ago
at the age of 81 and his mother, whose maiden name was Araminta Burgoon,
died in 1883, at the age of 92. His grandfather, John Weakland, was one of
the leading characters in the early history of Cambria county and was the
first owner of the land known as the Weakland settlement, at Hart's Sleeping
Place.
Michael Weakland's life, like that of his forefathers, was one of great
simplicity, purity and rectitude.
His remains were interred within sight of his beloved home at old St. Joseph
s church, where Requiem High Mass was celebrated by Rev. Father Michael, O.S
B. Many friends and relatives gathered there to pay their last tribute of
respect. Two sisters have preceded him, viz: Mrs. Temperance Cunningham, and
Mrs. Mary Byrne; two survive, Miss Susan Weakland and Mrs. William Switzler.
This Michael is the nephew of Michael Weakland who married Eleanor Harrison.
Note: The other names of Michael Weakland that I have are still
living...born after 1847.
