I got it figured out. This is really a weird coincidence. And to think
there are more than thirty year separating these couples in age. Notice the
difference in the spelling of Manion/Mannion.

1870
6 JAN 1870
Submitted by Lisa Baker
The death of Jacob Yost, Sr. of Carroll Township, was one of our oldest citizens. From his son Augustine Yost I have the following.
Jacob Yost, Sr. was of the German parentage. His father located near Chambersburg, Pa., where the subject of this notice was born in the year 1788, and 15 years later came with his parents to this country. They settled first near Munster, but shortly afterwards moved on a farm about 2 miles east of Ebensburg. In the year 1815 they moved to a farm 4 miles south of Carrolltown and made arrangements to purchase it, but through some deficit in the title the bargain fell through and after a residence of 1 year then moved again to the farm now occupied by the 2 sons of Mr. Yost, and where he and his father both died.
Jacob Yost married and had 8 children- 2 sons and 6 daughters, all of whom are yet living. He was the grandparent of 68 grandchildren and great grandfather of 17 children. One sister of the deceased was married to Emericus Bender, and the other Mrs. Elizabeth Holder, settled on the Pike near Ebensburg, and was brutally murdered by 2 men named Flanagan on the on the 21st day of July 1842. Two others married sisters of the deceased settled on farms adjoining to this place. Jacob Yost's father died a number of years ago at the advanced age of 85 and lies buried at Loretto. The wife of the former died about 2 years ago, aged 73, and her remains repose by the side of her husband in the Carrolltown graveyard. The deceased on one occasion, shortly after moving here, went out in the quest of a couple of oxen which had strayed away. He had not proceeded far when he had observed a large bear advancing toward him with decidedly hostile intentions, and he made up his mind that not be healthy to wait until he would come up. Fortunately a tall sapling stood near, and he lost no time in climbing it. The bear followed as far as the foot of the tree, but it was too small to enable him to climb up, and he complacently sat down and waited for some time until his patience was at length exhausted and he moved off, much to the relief of Mr. Yost. He also stated that when out gunning on one occasion he shot 4 deer, without leaving the position he had chosen to watch for them, and during one winter he killed over 50 wild turkey.
Mr. Yost was an honest and industrious man, and his years of toil were rewarded by a handsome competence. He was a consistant member of the Catholic Church and attended services here until a short time of his death. For several years past he had made his home with Mr. Augustine Yost, who finally done all that he could to smooth the pathway of his declining years, at the patriarchial age of 81 he was called home to the reward of a well spent life.

the listings were for the same James F. and the one that you are trying

Sausbdorf – the Kretschmer- and Schroth-Family
This year on Ascension we made a trip to the former homeland of the ancestors on my mother’s side. Also these German family groups lived in the former Austrian-Hungarian Empire. Their homeland was Austrian Duchy of Silesia, which became part of the Czechoslovakia in 1918. As they belonged to the German ethnic group in Czechoslovakia, they were all expelled in 1946, too. It took us nearly 9 hours to get there due to several serpentines on the road. In 1946 the expellees had been carried out in freight cars.
Finally we reached our hotel which was supposed to be one as outstanding places. But we learnt that it was more like a sanatorium or a hospital. There was no regular restaurant or any comfort at all. You had the impression, that the time had not moved on. Everything looked like pure communism. Anyway we went there to discover the roots of my mother's ancestors.
Saubsdorf where my grandfather, Rudolf Kretschmer, was born in 1926 has about 700 inhabitants today. Going back to 1921 Saubsdorf had nearly 1600 inhabitants. Saubsdorf was mentioned for the first time in written records in 1284 and was part of the property of the Diocese of Breslau. Already in the first half of the 15th century mineral resources like ore, marble and limestone were known in Saubsdorf, which were transported to Silesia. The so-called marble of Saubsdorf was exploited there unless the Germans were expelled. Saubsdorf had an own technical school for sculpting. There are still some witnesses of stone on the cemetery in Saubsdorf of these old German art works. Unfortunately on the cemetery all graves of our family were replaced by Czech ones. However the church in comparison to churches we have visited in Bohemia is in very good condition. Its patron is St. Hedwig, who was a duchess of Silesia, however she was born in Bavaria. Luckily the present pastor of Saubsdorf, a Salesian priest, opened the church for us. Several renovations could be realized by donations of the former expelled Germans. The present design of the church dates back to the year 1823. On one of the two galleries there is a well preserved organ. But the most important fact regarding our family history is on the top its steeple. There is only one bell left. But exactly that bell was a donation of my great-great-grandparents after World War I. Their first-born son Joseph who was called to become a priest, who had already been some years in seminary, but then had to serve in the Austrian Kaiser's military, died after a battle as a second lieutenant in Feltre in Italy in November 1917. In remembrance of their beloved son his parents donated this bell in 1923.
Walking down the main street we approached the house of my great-grandparents: Number G25. They had 13 children. One of their sons was my grandfather - father of my mother. The family tree of the Kretschmer family can be traced by till 1760. At that time Joseph Krädschmer had already been living in Saubsdorf Number G25.
One of the interesting facts is that my grandfather’s mother was a maiden Schroth. And the Schroths of Saubsdorf are distantly related to the Schroths of Lindewiese. They all can be traced back to their progenitor Bartel Schroth, who lived from 1540 to 1612. The most famous family representative was Johann Schroth who was born in 1798. In 1829 he founded the climatic health spa of Lindewiese. The spa got its permission by a royal edict in Vienna in 1840. The spa is specialized on balneotherapy of skin diseases and diseases caused by metabolic derangement as well as glandes with internal secretion. Descendants of Johann Schroth worked at the spa as doctors till 1946. In 1945 the Czech state took over the whole property. Luckily it became a private enterprise in 1992. The spa buildings have a total capacity of about 230 beds and 3,000 patients come here every year. Up-to-date methods and devices (massages, hydrotherapy, electrotherapy, paraffin bath) are used in therapy. By that the Schroth spa helps even today to restore the health conditions of thousands of patients.
We also visited the birth place of my grandmother, whose maiden name is Hackenberg. She was born in 1926 in Neurothwasser. The strange thing about that village is that it only contains a single 10 miles long main street. On each side of the lane is only one house. As Neurothwasser was that small, it did not have an own parish or church. The sacraments were given to the people in Altrothwasser. Even this church was very well preserved by donations of the formerly expelled German population.
Our last visiting spot was the former Archbishop’s residence in Jauernig. The archbishop of Breslau which is now in Poland chose Jauernig as his summer residence. The castle overlooks majestically the town and the neighbouring valleys. Even here the Czech state confiscated the property in 1945. The castle is a museum now, guided tours are available.

I'm still going through data sent by others and dug up by me, and there is probably more on these folks I haven't entered into my database. There is a lot in the Central PA Catholic record abstracts by Rev. Albert Ledoux. Our local library has volumes 2 through 5 of the set. I think there were only 5 volumes. They are well indexed. I just wish Vol 1 was in the library, as I think there would be more on these folks in it. Each volume covers nearly a decade except for Vol 5, which is the last one and covers 1865-1869.
I assume what you just sent is what you shared with Becky?

Individuals : Yahner Cleda Frances
Hello again. Thank you for responding so quickly...it is much appreciated! I am finding it so amazing to see how many people we are related to that we weren't aware of for all these years!!

This is the story that we have heard over the years as we were growing up: my Mother was the last of 3 daughters born to George J Holly and Cleda Frances Yahner Holly. She was born on 9/11/1918. In November of 1918, Cleda Frances disappeared leaving her three young children behind with their father. However, my Mom was told as she grew up that her Mother died in the Johnstown flood; this is the story she passed on to us. It wasn't until 1967 that her sister, Mary Frances, decided to trace her roots and came across the tree that showed her Mother, Frances Yahner, but no children followed on her branch. In researching further, she learned that her Mother was actually still alive and living in Windber, Pa under an assumed name of Margaret Thorpe. Her husband, George Holly, had been a professional boxer and brought his work home with him, being very abusive to her until she couldn't deal with it any longer and fled to Pa, leaving her daughters behind. My Mother was 50 when she first met her Mother. Only then did the true story come to light. My Mom grew up being cared for by relatives on her Dad's side and also spent time in the care of an orphanage, altho it is not clear why. Probably child abuse I would think.

I believe this is why the tree did not reflect any information about Cleda's family in order to protect her from her husband back in Ohio. This is the rest of the story:

My Mom, Patricia Marie, had 7 children with 3 husbands: Sandra Angela (1939); Joanne Marie (1941-1993); Anita (1943); Vivian Ann (1945); Valerie Marie (1947); Frances Patricia (1948) and Raymond Charles (1953-2000).. Sandra has 3 sons: Russell, Mark, Randy. Russell has a son, Shayne. Randy has a daughter, Cecily and a son, Brendan.

Joanne had 5 children: Tina, Deama, Joel, Diana and Denise. I have no further info on her family.

Anita was taken away by her father in 1944 and no one has seen her since. Efforts to find her over the years have been unsuccessful.

Vivian has 4 children: Colleen, Brian, Patrick and Maureen. Colleen has a son Eric & 2 daughters, Katie and Emma. Brian has a son, Brian, Jr. Patrick has a son, Connor & a daughter, Caroline. Maureen has no children.

I (Valerie) have 3 daughters: Jennifer, Jill & Jan. Jan has a daughter, Alexis & a son, Austin.

Frances has 3 sons: Lorian (born/died 1969); Terry and Timothy.

Raymond had no children.

My Aunt Cleta Ludmilla had 3 children: Cleda Marie, Roberta Jean & William. Cleda Marie has 4 children: Charles, William, Cleda Maria & Glen. Charles has 2 sons, Gregory and Charles, Jr. William has 1 son: William, Jr. Cleda Maria has a daughter, Cleda Hannah & a son, Adam. Glen has no children.
Roberta Jean was born 1940, died 1944.
William has 2 sons: William, Jr. and Christopher.

My Aunt Frances had 5 daughters:Patricia, born 1936/died 1937; Virginia; Baby (unnamed) born/died 9/10/41; Laverne; and Charlene. They moved to California in 1942 - no other info known.

Please let me know if any of the above is unclear or confusing and I will be happy to try to clarify. One of my daughters, Jill Johnson, is very much interested in helping me to create a family history and wanted permission to e-mail you with several questions that she has such as what software you use, if you have copies of any birth/death certificates, et

I thank you so much for your time and consideration in the matter of including the rest of our family on the tree. At this time of the year especially, this is a most priceless gift that you will be giving to me and my family!!

Happy Holidays and best regards from my family to you and yours!!

Your new cousin,
Val

Hello Val,

Thank you very much for writing. I have entered the names you listed and according to my genealogy software, you and I are 5th cousins. I will be happy to repair the tree and fill in the gaps with any information you are able to send. I'm very interested in the families of James Platt, the family of his son Eusebius Platt, and the descendant families.

I look forward to hearing from you.

The best,

~Ed Byrnes

Subject: Platt Family Tree - error by omission
Hello. My name is Valerie Belter. I am a part of the Platt Family via the Henry Yahner - Frances Alice Platt lineage. Frances was the daughter of Eusebius Platt who was the son of James Platt; James was the son of John Platt, Jr.

Henry Yahner and Frances Platt had 5 daughters: Ardella, Etheldreda, Cleda Frances, Phylistis Evelyn and Beatrice Ruth, all born between 1889 and 1902. My grandmother, Cleda Frances, is shown on the tree as "Cleta"... This is where the branch for her ended. However, she married George J Holly and they had 3 daughters: Mary Frances, Cleta Ludmilla and Patricia Marie (my Mother). They all married and produced 15 children between them.

There is an interesting story that goes along with the mystery of why none of us are on the tree. Mary Frances, my Aunt, discovered the error in 1967 or 1968 and we were told that the tree had been corrected. You may have an earlier version of the tree. Unfortunately, we cannot locate a copy of the revised tree. I would be glad to discuss the circumstances surrounding the reason for the omissions if you will respond to this e-mail indicating your interest in same.

I hope to hear from you in the near future so that the tree can be corrected to reflect this part of the John Platt heritage.

Sincere regards,

Valerie Belter
