The John Platt Family Tree There exists a wonderful John Platt Family Tree on paper; it is a drawn tree with family names representing the branches and limbs. It was created by Charles Vignos in 1950. Charles Vignos lived in Canton, Ohio and so does at least one of his grandsons, Joe Wagner. I met Joe Wagner and family in 1979, Joe has continued John Platt (1747-1850) research and has written several excellent papers about the life and Revolution War travels of John Platt. John Platt was born in 1747 in Littlestown, Pennsylvania. In the spring of 1775 at a tavern in Gettysburg John Platt volunteered for duty in the Pennsylvania Militia and served in the Revolutionary War. Five years later John Platt was living in a part of Huntington County, Pennsylvania which later became a part of Cambria County. It follows that many of the individuals on this tree are from Cambria County, Pennsylvania. See the Surname List below. The grandson of Charles Vignos, Joe Wagner showed me a great photograph and as I remember, it was of Charles Vignos working on the original tree. A standing person would have had to reach up to touch the top branches of the nine foot tall tree. The completed tree was photographed and Mr. Vignos sent copies to many relatives. Searchable Platt Family Tree

My copy is about 20 inches high by 10 wide. Ninety-five percent of the names are easy to read on my copy, maybe three percent requires best judgment, and maybe 2% are illegible. A paper copy of the tree is much easier to use than these web pages. These web pages provide a view of one square section of the tree at a time. But! The user can easily view adjacent squares and this helps if you are looking along a branch to find a surname.
Puzzle and Resource: Some may find searching these web pages an exercise of frustration and it can be. The pages are here for what help they may be. The web pages can be printed or enlarged and printed and pasted together. This printing can be done for any number of adjacent squares or the whole tree. The finished product may well be more useful than pretty. All the scans are of the original tree with no changes except for the yellow I added to define the squares. If I get a better copy of the tree I will replace those squares which are difficult to read. Maybe you are taken to C-9 but the name is not there. Sometimes it is very hard to find a name even when it is there and the image is clear. There may be mistakes in the way the web pages function. A person may click on a name which is supposed to be in section C-9 and they are taken to C-10. Send me an email detailing any mistake and I'll fix it.
